** Even though you won't (!), if you do misplace your passport or find it missing, alert your staff member (or any staff member) IMMEDIATELY.  The more time that passes, the less likely we are to find it.  You're going to get in trouble, but it will be much, much worse if you wait.

** If you were to lose your passport, you're stuck.  You (and a very unhappy staff member) will have to leave the tour, and travel to the nearest US Embassy or Consulate to begin the long and expensive process of replacing it.  Included in the expense will be the cost of getting you AND the staff member to wherever you have to go (trains, cabs, buses, etc.), lodging for both of you if necessary, and you'll want to eat during this stressful time.

You literally can't cross borders without a passport.  Other states have had members whose replacement process cost them to miss some if not all of the remainder of the tour.  And, of course, there is no refund, so the process is even more expensive.  You can't fly home with us without it, so you and a staff member will need new plane tickets - more expenses.  The staff are not allowed to pay for these additional costs, even if they want to help out.

You MUST trust us on this.

Note:  If an adult loses a passport, you're on your own to deal with the process.  Staff members must stay with students.

Actually, Arkansas did have a student lose a passport one year.  In the Memphis airport.  Was afraid to say anything so waited a couple of hours until time to board the plane.  Since he couldn't go without the passport, his parents had to come get him from the Memphis airport.  As we've explained, the tour went on without him.   A BRT representative will be in the Memphis airport.  Our staff will not stay behind with you.
